[photogallerylink id=134676 align=right][lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm] is at the top of her game. In fact she is at the top of just about every game she plays. The Queens bred Barbie already has a platinum-selling album in her debut, Pink Friday, Mattel made her a real Barbie, she’s got her name on nail polish, OPI, and she even has a rapport with camera company, Casio. Her next target was Twitter. Consider that one conquered too!
After only 2 years in the pro rap game, Nicki Minaj is the most followed hip hop artist on Twitter, besting [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eminem[/lastfm] by only a slight margin. Sitting at a cool 8,262,053, Em is not far behind at all with 8,241,482. All signs point to the Young Money rapper pulling away from Em as she reaches an even more iconic status.
We expect she will take her Twitter followers to levels of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Justin Beiber[/lastfm] with the advent of her new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, due out Valentine’s Day of this year.
To put her Twitter victory in better context, her Young Money cohorts, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Drake[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lil Wayne[/lastfm] only rake up 5.1 million and 4.9 million respectively in followers. So basically Nicki has as many followers as the both of them combined.
You go girl!

Soulful crooner, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ne-Yo[/lastfm] is still working on his new album The Cracks In Mr. Perfect, a project that is meant to show the reality of being a celebrity and trying to break down some of the expectations people have for them. But Ne-Yo’s latest project, the George Lucas film, “Red Tails”, asks him to be somebody else entirely.
[photogallerylink id=123574 align=left]His latest acting role has him playing Andrew “Smoky” Salem, a tough-as-nails, tobacco-chewing fighter pilot. This movie is based on the true events of the Tuskeegee Airmen, an all African-American squadron that fought and were made famous in World War II.
Red Tails is a big-budget action thriller complete with a star-studded cast which includes Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrance Howard and was written by Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder and director John Ridley.
Though Ne-Yo had a fun time on set, don’t expect him to hang up his dancing shoes anytime soon. “It was definitely a learning experience shooting this movie,” the 32-year-old singer told Rap-Up. “I developed a love and appreciation for the acting thing, but it will never take the place of music.”
“Red Tails” hits theaters January 20th.

We sure hope you didn’t expect Mother Monster to rest on her laurels, which for someone who made a heavy 90 million last year, is exactly the thing you might think she’d do, but then you’d be wrong.
Lady Gaga doesn’t have time for rest. The “Judas” singer says that this music making thing is her calling, and she just can’t help not slowing down. “I wake up in the morning with tears in my eyes and I write new songs and I think about the future. I was born to make music; I was born to see out my artistic visions. That’s what [Born This Way] is all about.”
[photogallerylink id=138340 align=right]So 2012 marks another action packed year for the native New Yorker, who has plans for another album and tour. “I’m looking forward to putting out another album and going on tour,” she said. “I can’t wait to see the fans. I have a million ideas and I just feel very blessed to be an artist who gets to do what she loves.”
Personally, we are probably more excited about Gaga’s new music than she is. We don’t only look up to her for her musical prowess, but also her actions to make the world a better place. The most notable example being the Born This Way Foundation, which Lady Gaga started with her mother in the wake of a rash of teen suicides brought on by bullying. “It’s a series of overarching issues that … have to do with the social policies that are in place, like gay marriage,” she said. “What kind of example we’re setting to youth. The example of equality has to be more linear now, it has to be more black and white.”
Luckily, Gaga doesn’t limit her creativity to a black or white standard, and the ever-evolving artist always keeps up guessing, giving us a lot to look forward to this year.
