Lana Del Rey’s SNL Performance: Carson Gives His Take On It All

Did you watch Saturday Night Live last weekend?

It kind of got lost in all the Golden Globes buzz, so we’re finally catching up with it right now.

Apparently, lots of people are upset with the musical guest, newcomer [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lana Del Rey[/lastfm].

She’s been on the receiving end of some pretty harsh critique from not only regular folk, but also people like NBC news anchor Brian Williams and actress/singer [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Juliette Lewis[/lastfm].

So does Lana deserve all this haterade? Carson decided to get your thoughts!

Almost immediately following her performance on NBC, people took to Twitter to blast the singer.

Actress/singer [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Juliette Lewis[/lastfm] also chimed in, initially tweeting:

Wow, watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12yearold [sic] in their bedroom when they’re pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes.

She later deleted that tweet and replaced it with some nicer words:

And in an email to Gawker owner Nick Denton, NBC news anchor Brian Williams called her performance “one of the worst outings in SNL history.” Ouch!

As for Carson, he didn’t think she was fantastic, but he was surprised by all the outspoken criticism.

Here’s what he had to say:

Wow Carson! You can read? I could have figured out all of that by pulling up the first few hits on Google for Lana del Rey.

Honestly, I think if people are going to devote this much time to discussing one lousy SNL performance, then I think they should spend an equal amount of time considering the fact that these days all we can do is sit around a bright screen and pick apart and devour anything and everything in sight.

Whatever the deal is with Lana del Rey, all I know is that she is the manufactured lovin’ we need, because I swear if I hear another voice that sounds like effin’ Lady Gaga I will literally barf…I’d rather hear a performance of an interesting song even if it was a little off instead of a spot-on performance for a mediocre, meaningless song which is the case with so many of our pop divas today.

And to whoever that was that called in: I don’t know if you realized, but if you listen to the song this is a pure love song, a very mature one, and just because she brings up the words “beer” and “video games” doesn’t lessen that. News flash: she picked those words for a reason, and she’s only 25 for cryin’ out loud! Sorry to be a little nasty, but that seems to be the name of the game when it comes to anything related to this performance. Poor girl. Give her a break! Sheesh! Since when did we start resorting to requesting that an artist change the words in their songs???
