This is week 3 for Booker’s Sample This. Are you learning anything yet kiddos? I hope so because I will be quizzing you the next time you decide to call in and request a song. I’m dead serious.
For you music heads who are new to this page get your pencil and pad ready I’m taking you back to school. This is where I share my knowledge with you on music that has been sampled and used for other songs. Are you still not really understanding music sampling, well lets break it down shall we.
Anytime an artist takes a melody or beat from a pre-existing song and uses it for their song that’s called music sampling. Take a look back at lessons one and two where I talk about two major artists who are no strangers to music sampling.
Even some of the biggest artist in the game sample music. As a matter of fact they are the main drivers behind the popularity of music sampling. This week lesson comes from [lastfm link_type=""]Lil Wayne [/lastfm]‘s new single “She Will” off his Platinum selling Album Carter IV. This album is actually under fire for supposedly not only stealing the instrumental from Atlanta artist J-lie, who used the same instrumental for his single “Letting go,” but illegally sampling the single “The Cloud” by Canadian singer song writer [lastfm link_type=""]Jim Guthrie[/lastfm].
As of today there have been no lawsuits involved in the accusations of the making of “She Will”which has peaked at # 1 on Hip Hop Charts and has been on the Charts for 22 days. [lastfm link_type=""]Lil Wayne [/lastfm]is currently releasing a prison memoir “Gone to November“based on the diaries he kept while he was locked up for gun possession on March 2010.
