Oscar Nomination Snubs & Surprises: Carson Weighs In

Now that we know who’s been nominated for this year’s Academy Awards, we’re studying the list to find out who was left out of the festivities and who came out of nowhere to snag a nomination.

Carson is a huge movie buff and after watching many of the critically-acclaimed films as part of his Golden Globes red carpet research, he had his own opinions on how today’s nomination ceremony turned out.

Who got a rude awakening this morning? Find out now!

Here’s Carson’s main beef with the nominations: What does Leonardo DiCaprio have to do to get a darn Academy Award?

He’s been acting since he was only a few feet tall in some of the most prestigious films out there. Do What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Titanic, The Aviator, The Departed, and Inception ring a bell?

Yet he’s never won the big prize and surprisingly wasn’t nominated for his performance in J. Edgar this year.

And while we’re on the subject of hunky Hollywood actors, why wasn’t Ryan Gosling thrown into the mix this year?

He arguably had one of the most successful years with critically-acclaimed performances in Drive, The Ides of March, and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

When it comes to the ladies, Carson had less complaints. Many people speculated that Charlize Theron would be nominated for Young Adult, but she didn’t make the cut.

On the flip side, Rooney Mara was a bit of a surprise with her nomination for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She edged out Tilda Swinton, who everyone thought was a sure bet for Best Actress.

In terms of Best Picture, there was one notable film missing. A few years ago, the Academy changed the rules to allow between 5-10 movies to be nominated so that more people could be recognized.

So is it just us or was it was a little shocking to see that the breakout comedy of the year, Bridesmaids, was not included on the list?

We’ll just have to be satisfied that star Kristen Wiig was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Melissa McCarthy made the cut for Best Supporting Actress.

But wait, there’s more! Listen to who else Carson’s thought got the cold shoulder:
