She’s proved it time and time again by using the internet and social media to reach out to her little monsters. This time, she’s teamed up with an IT big leaguer in Google CEO Eric Schmidt to invest in Blackplane, a new social network for celebrities that’s aimed at making it easier for them to get in touch and stay in touch with fans.
Gaga, her business manager Troy Carter, and their team are at the helm of this new project, of which Gaga is a 20 percent share holder. According to the New York Times, Backplane has already raised $1 million in funding from investors, including Lady Gaga and Eric Schmidt, who invested through his investment fund, Tomorrow Ventures.
The product aims to “blend technology and entertainment and plans to provide a venue for online communities by combining brands’ various social media presences into one platform,” according to TechCrunch.“Backplane will provide a platform and tools for communities to socialize and communicate on a more focused level.”
This isn’t the first time Lady Gaga has worked with the masteminds behind Google. She also starred in a commercial for Google Chrome.
