AMP Music Minute: Simon Cowell Gives ‘X’ Cast The Ax And More!

Simon Cowell cleaned house on The X Factor. He fired host, Steve Jones and judges Nicole Scherzinger and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paula Abdul[/lastfm]. We could go on with jokes of Brian Dunkleman, but that seems too mean. We just wonder how awkward it’s going to be at Simon and Paula’s pool parties, now that he’s given her the ax.

As for L.A. Reid, he still has his job for now, but if he can’t pull in the audience in one season, he better prepare for the high seas as well because Captain Cowell is one mean mother-shut yo’mouth!

Rumors have been swirling about Mariah Carey joining the show, which seem more validated now that it’s clear the show is going through a major overhaul.

There is no word on who will be in to replace the host and other judges but we will let you know as soon as we do!

Maybe Scherzy can use this time to work on her own music? Just an idea! AMP out.

You called for it. You asked for it. You waited patiently. And now she’s giving it to you. Adele has confirmed that she will be performing live at this year’s Grammy awards!

The UK songstress unveiled the news on her Twitter account, making it clear she was just as excited as we are,  “Ima be, Ima be singing at the Grammys. It’s been so long I started to forget I was a singer!” Adele tweeted. “I can’t wait, speak soon xx.”

Adele released a statement conveying tremendous thanks for the opportunity. “I’m immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards,” she said. “It’s an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all.”

The first time the Adele performed at the Grammy’s was in 2009 when she performed her beautiful ballad “Chasing Pavements.” She took home two trophies, one of which was Best New Artist. This year she is up for six awards including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year, three of the most illustrious accolades being awarded that night.

She joins a long list of superstar performers like Rihanna, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Coldplay[/lastfm], Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Foo Fighters[/lastfm], just to name a few.

The biggest night in music goes live on February 12th and will be hosted by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]LL Cool J[/lastfm].

[photogallerylink id=138309 align=left]Before you started calling him Drizzy Drake, many of us only knew him as Jimmy Brooks, the well-to-do basketball star from fictional Degrassi Junior High on the Canadian teen soap “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” He was handsome, cool, and had a way with the ladies.

True, Drake wasn’t playing a character too far from his own heart (Jimmy even starts rapping in later seasons), it doesn’t negate that the kid has acting chops.

Reveling in the success of his sophomore album, Take Care, Drake has been hunting for acting roles and itching to get back into the art.

Drizzy’s latest hope is playing President Barack Obama in a biopic about his life. “I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him,” the actor-turned-rapper told reporters at Sundance last week. “That’s the goal. I watch all the addresses. Any time I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel. I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions.”

We know Drake can sing a little, so he’ll have no problem with the President’s address in which he sang a few lines of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Al Green[/lastfm]’s “Let’s Stay Together.”

The Canadian-born Drake says he’s been offered roles as mostly basketball players and rappers but hopes to do something more substantial, even going as far as authoring it himself.

“I’ve been reading scripts for awhile,” he said. “I want to do something great. I want to do something for my culture: the younger people who are still in tune with everything going on. I’m actually writing with my friends right now.”
