AMP Music Minute: Simon Cowell Gives ‘X’ Cast The Ax And More! (page 3)
[photogallerylink id=138309 align=left]Before you started calling him Drizzy Drake, many of us only knew him as Jimmy Brooks, the well-to-do basketball star from fictional Degrassi Junior High on the Canadian teen soap “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” He was handsome, cool, and had a way with the ladies.
True, Drake wasn’t playing a character too far from his own heart (Jimmy even starts rapping in later seasons), it doesn’t negate that the kid has acting chops.
Reveling in the success of his sophomore album, Take Care, Drake has been hunting for acting roles and itching to get back into the art.
Drizzy’s latest hope is playing President Barack Obama in a biopic about his life. “I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him,” the actor-turned-rapper told reporters at Sundance last week. “That’s the goal. I watch all the addresses. Any time I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel. I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions.”
We know Drake can sing a little, so he’ll have no problem with the President’s address in which he sang a few lines of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Al Green[/lastfm]’s “Let’s Stay Together.”
The Canadian-born Drake says he’s been offered roles as mostly basketball players and rappers but hopes to do something more substantial, even going as far as authoring it himself.
“I’ve been reading scripts for awhile,” he said. “I want to do something great. I want to do something for my culture: the younger people who are still in tune with everything going on. I’m actually writing with my friends right now.”
