[photogallerylink id=144305 align=right]If you hadn’t heard already or missed the Super Bowl Halftime Show, M.I.A., who is featured in Madonna‘s new song “Give Me All Your Love,” flipped the whole world the middle finger during the performance on Sunday.
As is to be expected when these things happen, there was a bit of backlash and a number of groups and spectators calling for someone’s head to roll as redemption for their hurt feelings. But NBC is taking no credit for this one.
In a statement they released on Monday, they claim “The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show. Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers.”
So they are pointing at the NFL, who were quick to release a response. ”The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans,” said Brian McCarthy, a spokesman for the NFL.
But even he had to make sure it wasn’t only on the NFL’s shoulder, pointing back to NBC‘s delay system. “There was a failure in NBC’s delay system.”
Now we’re not defending what M.I.A. did. But it should be worth considering that she maybe kind of lost herself in the performance and forgot to censor her self. The lip-syncing made it so no curse words would slip, but any M.I.A. fan knows that her shows are riddled with obscenities and obscene gestures. Maybe she was just feeling it.
Either way, AMP has the scoop. We’ll let you know if any fines arise from this incident.
