Blue Ivy Carter is becoming the most famous baby ever to exist. Her famous parents, Beyonce and Jay-Z have not only including her in some of their latest recordings but have also been looking out for her future business interests. Though only a month old, Blue Ivy Carter already has a stake in selling baby carriages and baby products (like diaper bags and baby fragrances, etc) because her parents trademarked her name!
[photogallerylink id=139388 align=left]Now before you go beating them up, it’s likely they did this to protect Blue Ivy’s name from getting associated with who and whatever owned the patent. And it was good they did because fashion designer Joseph Mbeh went and tried to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” on January 11th, only 4 days after her birth. And then on January 20th, someone else applied to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV.”
Both applications have since been denied citing that “the name belongs to a very famous infant” and consumers would likely assume her parents approved or endorsed the products being sold under the trademark.
Currently Beyonce’s company BGK Trademark Holdings is listed on the application for the patent of Blue Ivy’s name. Though it’s still pending, it’s likely that it will be approved because parents can legally trademark their minor children’s names.
I think they call these #richpeopleproblems.
