Yep, that’s right. You might think I have my cultures twisted but the annual Nisei Week Luau Fundraiser that I am a part of falls on St. Patrick’s Day this year. If you don’t have plans on Saturday or are looking for something different, come through. Hawaiian food, music, prizes. Swap your green shirt and Guinness for some Mai Tai’s and a grass skirt in Little Tokyo.
Nisei Week is an organization that I volunteer for. We celebrate Japanese-American culture and the annual Luau helps to raise money for local community organizations and programs. By the way if you don’t know, Hawaiian culture is also very close to Japanese-American culture (there’s a lot of crossover) so I hope that kind of explains things.
Either way, it’s so much fun and even if you have plans at night, it’s a great pit stop to grab some food to help soak up all the drinks you’re gonna be having later. Plus, any scandals you get involved in will be excused by the good karma from helping a great cause. Everybody wins!
Date: Saturday, March 17, 2012
Time: Cocktails start at 5:30pm / Dinner: 6:00 – 7:30pm
Place: L.A. Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple
