Thankfully, Carson is on hand to help us make sense of it all.
Every week, he breaks down each episode and tells us what he was really thinking while watching it all go down on set.
So enough with all the small talk…let’s get right to it!
TEAM ADAM: Nathan Parrett vs. Pip – “You Know I’m No Good”
Both boys have very similar voices and while we expected Pip to dominate this face off, Nathan surprised everyone by bringing his A-game.
Blake and Christina sided with Pip, mainly because of his charming stage presence, but Cee Lo was digging Nathan’s understated performance because he exuded Amy Winehouse’s effortlessly cool style.
Of course, it was only Adam’s vote that mattered and he ended up choosing Pip to advance to the live shows.
TEAM CEE LO: Erin Martin vs. The Shields Brothers – “What’s Love Got To Do With It”
Weirdest battle of the entire season has to go to this odd match up!
Erin, with her quirky Macy Gray-esque tone, was a total 180 from The Shields Brothers, who hammed it up with their rock n’ roll vibe.
When you put the two together, it became the strangest-ever rendition of a Tina Turner song…even Adam Levine didn’t know quite what to make of it.
In the end, it came down to Erin’s unique vocals versus The Shields Brothers infectious chemistry and luckily for Erin, she squeaked by this time.
But Cee Lo better watch out…during the rehearsals, we noticed a little bit of a diva-tude from her! We’ll be interested to see if that continues during the live shows.
TEAM BLAKE: Jermaine Paul vs. ALyX – “Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car”
Holy 80s flashback! The retro song choices prevailed yet again with the soulful Alicia Keys back-up singer Jermaine Paul and teenage pop princess ALyX.
This battle was lopsided from the start. We felt bad that the very green ALyX was chosen to go up against such a seasoned performer, but hey, who said the battle rounds were supposed to be fair?
Jermaine’s experience proved to be too good to ignore and ALyX was sent packing.
TEAM BLAKE: Erin Willett vs. Gwen Sebastian – “We Belong”
Wow, grab some tissues while watching this duet because it’s an emotional one, that’s for sure.
When we met Erin during the blind auditions, she and her family were going through some hard times. Her father was recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He wasn’t doing so well, but his wish was for her to follow her dreams.
Erin did not disappoint him last night. She really brought some meaning to Pat Benatar’s lyrics. Unfortunately, her father didn’t survive long enough to see the performance air on TV, but The Voice dedicated the episode to him in a touching moment.
That being said, you couldn’t count out her worthy opponent, country singer Gwen Sebastian either.
She held her own in this match up and it totally divided the coaching panel.
Blake had a tough decision to make, but eventually, he chose Erin to continue on to the next round. But don’t worry about Gwen, Carson revealed that after the battle, Blake called her up and invited her to sing back-up on his tour…what a Southern gent!
