It’s the end of the week and you know what that means…Food Truck Friday!
We look forward to this tradition each week and today was yet another banner edition.
This morning, it was all about getting in touch with our inner-Pittsburgher because the crew from Steel City Sandwich came prepared feed a village!
Steel City Sandwich has only been rolling on the streets of Los Angeles since last August, but Taylor and Neil were born and raised on east coast flavors.
The couple met in college while Taylor was studying theatre arts and Neil was attending the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute.
Four years ago, Taylor and Neil made the move to Southern California and were surprised to find that you couldn’t get authentic Pittsburgh-style sandwiches anywhere.
With his chef background and her outgoing personality, it seemed like a no-brainer to get involved in the food truck scene.
What makes Steel City’s sandwiches truly unique dates all the way back to the Great Depression.
The local steel workers needed some good, solid food to get them through the long 20-hour shifts. It had to be quick, something they could just throw together, so to get your starch, vegetable, and meat all at once, they put everything inside a sandwich.
For example, Steel City’s Champion sandwich includes double meat, provolone cheese, and a fried egg topped with fresh cut fries, italian slaw, and sliced tomatoes all encased by bread that’s baked fresh daily.
Now, that sounds like a lot…and it IS, but all the ingredients combine together to make one delicious and filling meal.
Congratulations to today’s lucky caller, Dave from Monica. He got hooked up with a free lunch not only for himself, but for all his co-workers too!
Next week, Carson will welcome another exciting food truck into the studio, so tune in Friday morning for another chance to win!
