Dr. Dre On Tupac Hologram: “This Was Not Done For A Tour”
Tupac‘s return to the stage as a hologram at Coachella last week sparked controversy and rumors of an impending tour. Dr. Dre has attempted to clarify the hologram’s future this weekend, but neglected to rule out an encore.
Dr. Dre addressed the rumors about the illuminated Tupac via video, in which he says the hologram was specifically created for Coachella performance.
“What up, it’s Doc. Dre, backstage, Coachella, 2012 and I want to thank everybody out there for all the love and support,” Dre says in the video. “As you know, we had a hologram of Tupac Shakur show up as a part of our show.
Dre went on to thank companies Digital Domain for constructing the image and AV Concepts for projecting it onstage.
“They did an incredible job,” he said, “[but] it was strictly for Coachella, get it right. I want to get rid of all the rumors out there. This was not done for a tour. If a tour happens, we’ll see.” [See video below]
A hologram of Tupac hit the stage at Coachella festival April 15, as part of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg‘s set. When he lit up the stage, he yelled, ” Whatup Coachella!” and went into his combative record, “Hail Mary.”
For fans who did not get a chance to see Tupac’s illuminated return, Dre didn’t rule out a second look at Hologram Tupac. “This was done strictly for Coachella 2012, baby, just for you,” Dre said. But time will tell if Tupac’s image will rise again. –Erik Parker, CBS Local
