fun.’s “We Are Young” has been on heavy rotation at AMP for some time now. The band has been neck in neck on the charts with a fellow artist who also seemingly skyrocketed to fame out of nowhere: Gotye. It seems only natural that the two bands would partner up in some way.
While a proper collaboration has yet to happen, fun. has cemented their support of their electro-pop chart topping counterpart Gotye with a cover of their ubiquitous “Somebody That I used to Know”. Early this morning, fun. performed a live cover with the help of Paramore lead singer Haley Williams.
Singer Nate Ruess told NME, a UK music news publication, that the cover almost didn’t happen! Ruess reacts to the performance:
”I think it went well. It was a pretty hectic morning, we were never sure how linking Hayley into the show was going to go, it seemed like a pretty daunting technological task. Then, to top it off, Andrew got food poisoning and suddenly we had no piano, which was the base of our original version. The fact that we got through it was unbelievable.”
Both fans of Gotye and fun. should be relieved that the performance did, in fact, happen. We think you’ll really enjoy it. fun. was able to hold the flavor of the original while putting their unique signature on it. If this is any indication of what a Gotye/fun. collaboration might sound like, we can’t wait! Let us know what you think!
