If you’re keeping tabs on the most cringe-worthy moment of the year, we may have just found it.
Yesterday, actor Martin Short appeared on the 4th hour of Today to promote the film Madagascar 3 and things were going well until host Kathie Lee Gifford asked him how he maintains a happy marriage with his wife.
Trouble is, Short’s wife actually died almost 2 years ago from ovarian cancer.
The actor was obviously caught off guard by the question, but tried to roll with the punches. Take a look:
After the commercial break, Gifford apologized saying that she felt “so badly” and didn’t realize his wife had passed away.
And if all that weren’t embarrassing enough, she also tried to reach out to the actor on Twitter. However, it was later discovered that Martin Short doesn’t have a Twitter account, which means her message went to some random follower! Awkward!
I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I'm so grateful.—
