More performers have been announced for the upcoming 2012 BET Awards, including the G.O.O.D. Music family. Kanye and crew will be making their live television debut on the BET Awards stage.
The Kanye West-led team of Pusha T, Big Sean, Kid Cudi and 2 Chainz will join recently announced performers Usher, Chris Brown, and Nicki Minaj, according to Vibe. The G.O.O.D. Music crew is currently riding the momentum of the omnipresent posse cut “Mercy,” for which West recently released a video.
In April, the team raised anticipation for the forthcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation when they dropped the bombshell “TheraFlu” (later named “Way Too Cold”) and released “Mercy” in the span of 48 hours.
“Mercy,” which includes 2 Chainz, created excitement about the possibility of an official Chainz signing to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint. When asked if he would sign to G.O.O.D. Music for his debut solo album, 2 Chainz didn’t rule it out.
“We’ll just have to see,” he said. “I do still like that element of surprise. That’s what makes hip-hop fun to me.”
When will he break the secret?
“That’s the thing about surprises,” he continued. “Can’t have a surprise party if you know about it, right?”
While fans may wonder if 2 Chainz’s participation with G.O.O.D. music on the BET stage could signal something more, the list of talent associated with this BET Awards ensures there will be many surprises.
Samuel L. Jackson will host the big show from the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Presenters include Taraji P. Henson, Meagan Good, Kevin Hart and Cedric The Entertainer. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly will be this year’s Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award honoree. Reverend Al Sharpton is set to receive the 2012 Humanitarian Award presented by State Farm.
The BET Awards will be televised on Sunday, July 1 ET. —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
