Usher Scores 4th No. 1 Debut-
Get ready to “Scream” because Usher has done it! He has achieved his fourth consecutive Number One debut on the Billboard charts. Led by his dance track “Scream” and the groovy but still electronic-infused “Climax,” Raymond was able to sell 128,000 copies of his seventh studio album Looking 4 Myself.
Still he doesn’t come close to his 2010 release, Raymond V. Raymond, which moved 328,000 in its first week. Don’t get us wrong, it’s quite a feat and especially in this tough economic times to get anyone to spend money on a nonessential good is a statement in its own right.
Fortunately for Usher his success isn’t just statewide. The reigning king of Pop R&B is also sitting atop the charts in the U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, and Japan.
Rihanna Lends Voice to Dreamworks Animated Film-
We recently reported that Rihanna was on the hunt for new movie roles since getting her feet wet in the action-thriller, “Battleship,” released earlier this year. Looks like she is getting her wish- well sorta!
Rih has been slated to star in the Dreamworks animated feature “Happy Smekday,” based on the award-winning children’s book, “The True Meaning of Smekday” by Adam Rex.
THR reports that the singer will star opposite “Big Bang Theory” actor Jim Parsons and will be directed by Tim Johnson, who also directed “Over the Hedge” and “Antz.” This will be Rihanna’s first voice-over job.
Word on the street is that she is still looking to get into acting roles before her next tour begins.
Katy Perry Calls “Wide Awake” A Dose of Reality-
Katy Perry has long hailed “Wide Awake” as the perfect song capstone on the last year of her life. The 27-year-old pop star recently explained what she wanted fans to understand most about this song. Her answers were honest and clearly shows that Perry realizes her life isn’t always cookies and cupcakes.
“This song in particular is like a dose of reality, coming down from a high, having been on cloud nine for so long,” she described. ” But it can’t always be so sweet. You have to pick yourself up and move forward and face the facts of life.”
Katy explained how the video draws a lot from her life and shows the audience some of how she felt when she was going through her worst, referring specifically to obstacles she had to overcome. “It’s like the labyrinth of my life,” Perry said of her new video. “I wanted to tell the story of myself going through this journey, trying to get out of the maze. The whole time, there is the younger version of me, leading me through.”
We certainly can’t pretend to know the ins and outs of Katy’s life but it seems pretty clear what “obstacles” she’s talking about (Divorce!). Given that last year she had six number one singles, sold out a bevy of concert all over the world and was played on the radio every single day, her career seemed to be going in the right direction.
We can’t say we know, but are just saying. For the whole story from the lady who lived it, make sure you see her concert documentary “Part of Me: 3D,” which hits theaters July 5th.
