Last summer, it was “Car-mageddon” and now, it’s all about “Ramp Jam!”
Starting this past Friday, construction workers shut down the westbound Wilshire Boulevard onramp to the northbound 405Freeway and the northbound 405′s offramp to westbound Wilshire.
Put more simply, if you are traveling west on Wilshire, you cannot access the northbound 405 ramp and if you’re driving northbound on the 405, you cannot exit at Wilshire to go west.
These particular ramps will be out of commission for 3 months and then city crews will move on to the other ramps in the busy interchange.
The closure is part of a yearlong project to rebuild the interchange ramps. Organizers say the new ramps will reduce traffic jams and dangerous lane weaving.
The fear is that “Ramp Jam” will cause major backups in the already crowded Westside, Westwood and Brentwood areas, but so far, everything seems to be under control.
Expect a lot of overflow on nearby streets like Sepulveda, Veteran and San Vicente.
Officials say you should take some extra time for your commute and if possible, avoid the area completely.
