Listen To Taylor Greenwood, Dave Grohl’s “Next Big Thing” Protegee
“The world could use a real artist like Taylor right about now. Definitely one to look out for.” That’s a direct quote from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who has decided to look out for Taylor Greenwood himself. After the rock star caught one of Greenwood’s New York City shows, he decided she was just the kind of artist he wants to work with.
“In this day and age where processed production can make anyone America’s next big thing, Taylor Greenwood is so refreshing because she is the REAL DEAL,” Grohl says. “A truly amazing artist. Anyone who knows her voice knows the sound of raw, natural talent. I’ve seen her break a room down to pin-drop silence, and then make it explode…all in one song. With a voice that sounds as big in a smoky bar as it does on album…”
High praise from a veteran rocker for the California singer-songwriter. Greenwood has been writing songs since she was 13 and attended the Berklee College of Music, where John Mayer also musically matriculated. Her songs are musically in line with the likes of Sara Bareilles, using familiar arrangements and up-tempo percussion for a distinctly pop sound. But her lyrics are rougher, invoking comparisons to Adele.
Grohl is working with her on new music, reportedly “fine tuning the arrangements and chord choices” so the evolution from her single “All The Right Ones” below, from 2011, to the fine tunings of Grohl’s aesthetics will be interesting to hear.
You can expect new, Grohl-tuned music from Greenwood later in 2012. Her EP All Around Me is available now.
