The trucks usually go on air at around 8:45am, which is on the early side, but never has he ever seen a truck roll up to the building at 5:45am just to get ready!
Well, that’s exactly what happened this morning with Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels. As Carson walked towards the front door, he could hear the blissful sounds of chopping in the truck, so immediately he knew we were in for quite a treat today!
Jose Piaggio, the chef and co-founder of the truck, explained to Carson why he was inspired to become part of the SoCal food truck craze:
For Jose, the culinary business runs in the family. He was born in Argentina where his family owned a meat processing company.
When he was a teenager, he apprenticed at his uncle’s famous restaurant.
Once he got a little older, he started a bed and breakfast in Brazil and then eventually moved up to Southern California to open his own restaurant.
The economic downturn really hit the restaurant business hard, so when he had to close down his Brea restaurant, Gaucho Grill, he decided to do away with the brick and mortar business model and set up shop in a food truck.
Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels specializes in traditional Argentine-style food, which means you’ll be feasting on empanadas, milanesa sandwiches, and sausage sandwiches.
The truck also borrows from the Mexican culture, incorporating tacos and burritos as a means of showcasing the Argentine meats and chimichurri flavors. Translation…it’s delicious and easy to eat on the streets!
Congrats to today’s caller! They and their entire office scored a free lunch! It’s so easy…all you have to do is listen to Carson on Friday mornings and you could win too!
