For the past couple of days, it’s been cloudy. It’s that kind of day where you just want to stay in bed and eat a grilled cheese…or is that just us??

Luckily, Get Toasted is just what we needed to satisfy our craving!

The crew rolled on up for Food Truck Friday with platters full of toasted gourmet sandwiches. Om nom nom!

John and Chef Manny dropped by the AMP Radio studio this morning to show Carson what get Get Toasted is all about:

Get Toasted only launched about a year ago, but it was a plan that was decades in the making.

Chef Manny has been cooking since he was a kid. When he was 17, he joined the Army as a Food Service Specialist. After he finished his tour of duty, he studied at the Culinary Institute of America in both NYC and California.

He went on to work at several restaurants, and even cooked at the Playboy Mansion for the one and only Hugh Hefner.

John grew up in the Philippines with a family devoted to the restaurant industry. His mother managed several restaurants that his aunts owned, so he had lots of hands-on experience. He too studied at culinary school and eventually moved up to the Bay area. It was there where he decided to evolve into a food and beverage specialist.

When he moved back to Los Angeles, he started managing the front of house for a Brentwood retaurant. He struck up a friendship with Chef Manny, who was working in the kitchen. After about a year and a half of slaving away, they decided to pair up and develop Get Toasted.

It was important to both John and Manny to incorporate their ethnic backgrounds into their menu. So while they may look like your average grilled cheese or BLT sandwiches, they are actually infused with Spanish, Latin, and Asian flavors.

Get Toasted caters to a wide variety of palates, including gourmet foodie fanatics, vegetarians, and picky kids, so there’s something for everybody.

Carson’s favorite part about Food Truck Friday is picking one of our lucky listeners to receive a free office lunch from our featured truck of the week. Congratulations to today’s winner…they are eating like kings today!
