Summer may not technically end until the summer solstice on September 22, but for most families summer vacation is a wrap. It’s time to head back to school! To go with those new school supplies and fall sweaters, we’ve put together a back to school playlist!
1. Katy Perry “Last Friday Night”
Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean all the fun is over. Katy Perry proves that Friday’s can be a blast any time of the year.
2. Chris Brown “Don’t Wake Me Up”
Because we all know waking up for that first class is nearly impossible. Chris Brown shares this sentiment.
3. Maroon 5 “Payphone”
Just in case your teacher confiscates your cell phone from texting during class, Maroon 5 reminded us this summer that payphones still exist and are accessible. In fact, guitarist James Valentine recently told CBS Local that he accepted a new job this summer.
“Maybe that’s our role. Maroon 5 as educators. Because with ‘Moves Like Jagger’ we taught a whole generation who Mick Jagger was. So now we’re doing the same thing with payphones because this whole new generation they probably have never even touched a payphone. And it’s probably a good thing because payphones are disgusting.”
4. Neon Trees “Everybody Talks”
A friendly reminder to stay clear of the school gossip, Neon Trees’ spark up fun at the drive-in with their popular track “Everybody Talks” and teach everyone not to hitchhike, no matter the situation.
5. Florence + the Machine “Dog Days Are Over”
As much as we all don’t want to admit it, summer is over. So why not let Florence Welch’s airy vocals and hand-clapped rhythms let us forget about that?
6. John Mayer “No Such Thing”
Because let’s face it, we’ve all run through the halls of our high school at one point or another whether we we’re late to first period or a major exam. His first single, Mayer talks of their being no such thing as the real world. If only we all realized that in high school.
7. Queen “We Are the Champions”
A signature staple at football games everywhere, whether it’s Queen’s “We Are the Champions” or “We Will Rock You” it’s nearly impossible to not hear one of these songs as football season approaches.
The perfect start to any party, Havana Brown’s new single heats up the weekend so much so you’ll forget summer is over.
The school year allows you to see all your friends at school that you haven’t seen all summer, which isn’t a bad thing right? Owl City’s Adam Young described the song as a “laid-back kind of chilled out camping vibe. It takes place out in the woods. People are hanging out, having a good time. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to wrap your mind around it.” Just because summer is over, the fun doesn’t have to end.
10. Taylor Swift “Fifteen”
Taylor’s song talks of the ups and downs that being 15 can bring. She’s come a long way since she was 15 and has done alright for herself. Maybe it’s wise to heed her words. The start of the school year doesn’t have to be such a let down and Taylor is here to help. In partnership for raising money for music education she’ll be performing at whichever school gets the most votes this fall. To vote for your school to receive a special visit and performance by the singer go to Taylor Swift On Campus.
