The samurais were the military nobility of Japan. They were a class of highly-skilled warriors who wore two swords, together called daisho – “long and short.”

The katana, a curved blade over 24 inches long, was suitable for slashing, while the wakizashi, at 12-24 inches, was used for stabbing.

The samurai moral code stresses frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery, and honor unto death.

The samurai culture is so infamous, even Tom Cruise took a shot at playing one in “The Last Samurai,” and if you’ve seen it, you actually buy it even though it’s Tom Cruise.

Early this week, a video of a homeless man and some other dude was making the rounds after they’ve got into a samurai crutch fight in Times Square.

Leave it to the internet to take that piece of cell phone footage and make it entertaining in a nothing-to-do-with-samurai Star Wars version.

Guess I just wanted to talk about samurais today. Now you’ll be able to hold a conversation about samurais at the bar if you ever find yourself in that position, which I’m guessing you won’t, but if you do you’ll say to yourself, “Thank you Surfer Stephen, thank you.”
