It’s been awhile since we’ve heard new music from Alicia Keys, but now we have plenty to listen to because she’s cooked up not one, not two, but THREE versions of her latest track, “Girl On Fire.”
As soon as Carson heard the single earlier this morning, he couldn’t get enough of it.
“Remember when we got Rihanna’s ‘Love The Way You Lie,’ the Eminem mix and we played it?” he said. “I had that sort of same feeling with this. Immediately you could tell this was going to be a big song.”
Once Keys reaches the chorus, the track kicks into full gear.
“That makes me want to come out with my 12-bar flow,” Carson exclaimed. “When I get a song like that, it fires me up! You know what I mean? It makes me want to go in the booth and pen some fire!”
Well, by now we know that Carson is a fan, but were you all digging it? A bunch of listeners called in asking to hear the whole thing, so Carson happily obliged.
He played the pop radio-friendly “Inferno” version, which features verses from Nicki Minaj.
“I’m going to be honest with you. I like Nicki Minaj.” Carson said. “I like her in doses. I like her guesting on records.”
On the “Bluelight” version, Keys showcases a far more jazzy tone, which sounds more like the classic Alicia we all know and love.
As for the third version, she’s still keeping that under wraps, but perhaps we won’t be waiting for too much longer.
Keys will perform live at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday at 8pm ET.
