Another marathon done! A big thanks to everyone at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training (TNT) and all my friends, co-workers and family members for donating and getting me through the 2012 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend.
My journey started with LLS back in March when we began training for the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll full marathon that took place in June. Since fundraising with LLS, YOU have helped me raise over $4,300. That’s huge! What’s even more huge, is that the Disney crew for the Half Marathon raised $81,192. And even bigger than that (we’re talking gigantic) is that TNT, as a whole, raised more than $1.3 billion! What?! I’m typing that again OVER — $1.3 BILLION — That’s making it possible to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. Go Team!
For the Disneyland Half Marathon, I formed Team AMP Radio. It consisted of my good friend Sasha and I. We are just two of more than a half a million runners, walkers, hikers, cyclists and triathletes. If you’re looking to train for a full marathon, half marathon or even a triathlon, TNT is a great way to achieve your goal while helping to save lives.
I’ve said it before; I’m not a runner. Before joining TNT, I would maybe run two to three miles about three times a week. I was your average runner I would really never go over three miles. Once I started training with TNT, each week was a new personal record. We’d hit four miles, then five miles — eventually getting up to 16, 18 even 20 miles (this was when I trained for San Diegeo full marathon). It was an awesome feeling to hit a new goal each week. I’m already plotting the next 5K, 10K and half marathon I want to take on. I’m thinking the Las Vegas Half Marathon in December for sure. I know it sounds cheesy, but if I can do it, YOU can do it!
Getting back to the Disneyland Half Marathon! Team AMP Radio completed the challenge over Labor Day weekend. It’s not everyday you get to run through California Adventure Park (like Cars Land), Disneyland (the Sleeping Beauty Castle, Tomorrowland, Toontown), the streets of Anaheim (with live entertainment), inside Angel Stadium and end it all in Downtown Disney.
I remember photos being taken with Captain Hook, the Army Men from “Toy Story”, motivating me to “Move It! Move I” & passing many Tinker Bell wings throughout the course. The Disney fans definitely dress up for this marathon. If you’re thinking about it; do it!
It was great when we ran through Angel Stadium and were greeted by a stadium full of fans and seeing each of our faces on the Jumbotron — definitely a Kodak moment.
I want to send a big shout out to my AMP Radio teammate Sasha Huff for never giving up, her dedication, determination and crossing the finish line to her first (not last) half marathon. You GO!
Along with the coaches and teammates that got us all to the finish line, I want to send a special thank you to the honored teammates that came out every week to share their inspiring stories at practice. It’s a privilege to run with all of you.
If you are looking to train for an upcoming marathon, half marathon or triathlon, while at the same time making a difference in peoples’ lives, check out TNT. To find out more about LLS and TNT hit up, click here. Go Team!
Yes, we got to go inside Disneyland after the marathon!
