DJing has grown from being a skill simply based on entertaining people with recorded music, to becoming one the modern world’s most popular and celebrated art forms.
David Guetta and Skrillex are a great example of this.
I saw this video today of a DJ doing his thing at the Red Bull Thre3Style, a contest put on by Red Bull to find the best “Party Rocker.” Basically, it just gave me an excuse to post a couple videos I dig.
To me nowadays, it seems everybody with a laptop thinks they’re a DJ, but I miss the old form of two turntables and actual records.
Today it’s all Serato, which is software that enables you to use your laptop to spin mp3s onto two pieces of wax that never change and reads your mp3s.
First, I wanted to say as a kid, I dug the whole B Boy scene that was emerging even though I was small and one of my favorite movies was Beat Street, so I’m posting that trailer.
Second, being that this is a post about DJs, I wanted to post one of my favorite DJ’s greatest intros, Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys using nothing but wax.
All and all though, it’s great that people out there are being creative no matter what they use. Creativity is something that should be part of everybody’s life. (Videos contain explicit language. Watch at your own risk.)
