From Carson Daly

Even though we’re only 2 weeks into season 3 of The Voice, the coaches’ teams are already shaping up nicely.

Carson, who does double duty as both our morning show DJ and host of the singing competition, had a lot to say about last night’s episode, but he also had to offer up a sincere apology.

Why, you may ask? Because he’s guilty of saying some pretty lame things on the show!

For example, during JR Aquino’s performance on Monday’s episodeCarson said something to the effect of, “Alaska’s finally on the map!” Womp, wommmp!

Last night’s show was no different. He managed to sneak in the line “from Seattle to Cee Lo.” Yup, that happened!

So in case you were annoyed by those solid one-liners, he knows and he agrees!

Now that Carson’s offered up his mea culpa, let’s discuss the latest round of blind auditions!

Trevanne Howell – “I Have Nothing

It’s Carson’s job to stay with the friends and family of each singer as they perform on stage. It’s great when the coaches press their button, but equally awkward for him when no one turns around.

Such was the case for Trevanne Howell, a single mom who sang an incredible rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.”

“I remember that was one of the tougher friends and family rooms I had to be in because she’s a single mom and the kid was there in the room with me,” Carson recounted this morning. “And we usually open the show with a big one, but in a rare moment, we opened the show last night…nobody turned for her as she sang that Whitney Houston song.”

Joselyn Rivera – “Stronger”

“Joselyn was a story that I thought was great last night,” Carson said. “She was a young girl who had it tough in the beginning.”

Tough might be an understatement. She was born prematurely with neurological deficiencies. At about age five, she started to fall behind the rest of her peers and her doctor recommended that she start singing.

Clearly, her therapy paid off. Joselyn knocked the socks off of Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton.

Overall, it was a strong night for the men. In particular, Carson really enjoyed Mycle Wastman, whose Al Green cover scored him a spot on Team Cee Lo Green and Benji, who gave up a career in racing to pursue his passion for singing.

Also notable about last night’s episode? Blake Shelton came up with a goose egg. Not a single contestant chose to be on his team and he’s vowed to be more cutthroat from this point forward, so be on the look out for that!
