News Anchor Calls Out Email Bully For Overweight Comments
When you get into the news or entertainment business, it’s a given that you’ll be on the receiving end of some mean comments from time to time, however, a news anchor in La Crosse, Wisconsin decided that enough was enough and called out her bully on air.
Jennifer Livingston received an email from a viewer who claimed she was not a “suitable example for this community’s young people, girls in particular” because of her weight.
After Livingston’s husband posted the full email on Facebook, she received a barrage of support and decided to address the situation during a 4-minute segment that has now gone viral on YouTube.
She referred to the viewer as a bully and did not hold back.“You can call me fat and yes, even obese on a doctor’s chart. But to the person who wrote me that letter, do you think I don’t know that? That your cruel words are pointing out something that I don’t see? You don’t know me. You are not a friend of mine. You are not a part of my family, and you have admitted that you don’t watch the show so you know nothing about me but what you see on the outside; and, I am much more than a number on a scale.”
Livingston reminded viewers that October is National Anti-Bullying Month.
“We need to teach our kids how to be kind, not critical, and we need to do that by example…To all of the children out there who feel lost, who are struggling with your weight, with the color of your skin, your sexual preference, your disability, even the acne on your face, listen to me right now: Do not let your self-worth be defined by bullies. Learn from my experience that the cruel words of one are nothing compared to the shouts of many.”
The man who wrote the email, Kenneth W. Krause, has also come forward. The lawyer and fitness enthusiast is not backing down from his remarks and has offered to help Livingston lose weight so that she can be what he believes is a better example.
