Back in the day when me and all my friends would go see shows, I would always say, “Did you guys see how good that drummer was?”
I didn’t realize I would always say that, so it became the standing joke where my friends would beat me to the punch and say it before I got the chance.
There’s always been something about the drummer who holds the whole show together by keeping time all the while playing their brains out.
I really got excited when the Beastie Boys started playing their instruments on tour. Most hip hop or pop music artists usually sing to a track, so when you see real instruments behind an artist it’s a completely different experience.
Travis Barker, who is hands down one of the better drummers of today, started doing this a while back and it’s very cool to watch.
Also, I put a video of Death Cab for Cutie’s drummer Jason McGerr giving you a drum lesson. Every time I watch this, it gives me a headache!
I can work my way around the drums a little bit and if you’ve ever tried, you know that it challenges your brain and your motor skills to work all of your limbs in different patterns, which is much easier said than done.
