Felix Baumgartner Breaks Sound Barrier During Red Bull Space Jump!
After Tuesday’s jump was scrapped for poor weather conditions, Baumgartner was finally able to complete his mission after years of training.
More than 8 million tuned in to watch “Fearless Felix” break the record for the highest manned balloon flight.
Baumgartner also became the first person to break the sound barrier without the aid of a shuttle or jet. He reached speeds of 833.9 miles per hour during his free fall. How cool is that?
There were a few tense moments when mission control was concerned with overheating inside Baumgartner’s helmet and when Baumgarnter seemed to be getting nervous waiting for his capsule to depressurize, but in the end, the jump was executed flawlessly. No seriously…he made a perfect landing on his feet!
