Halloween weekend is upon us, which means we’ll be devouring lots of treats!
We decided to get the festivities started early with Food Truck Friday.
Chef Carlos and Sales/Operations Manager Silvia explained to Carson how their family business impacted their decision to get into the food truck biz:
Taco Maria opened late in 2011 and specializes in what they call “Chicano cuisine.” They incorporate influences from both Mexican and American cultures when cooking up their delicious tacos and burritos.
Carlos and Silvia grew up in the O.C. working for their family’s 26-year-old taqueria, La Siesta in Orange.
“That was basically our babysitter,” Silvia explained. “We went there and would work the register, the kitchen, wherever we were needed.”
Carlos later moved up to San Francisco and worked in a couple of the Bay-Area’s Michelin-rated restaurants.
“It’s been a transition going from making sort of more refined, more snobby food,” Carlos told Carson. “And actually that’s part of the reason I came down here to work with my folks was so that I could make food that was for everyone and not just for the elite.”
Taco Maria uses fresh produce from Orange County and their meats and seafood are raised and caught either on the west coast or in Mexico’s Gulf of California.
The attention to detail has certainly paid off. Taco Maria was the OC Register’s 2012 Critic’s Choice winner for Best Food Truck.
Because we love our AMP Radio listeners so much, Carson picked one of our callers to receive a free lunch, compliments of Taco Maria. Congratulations to Natalie in Irvine…she and her co-workers are in for quite a feast!
