McCabe’s TNT LA Marathon Training Journal: Week 3
Typically 3 weeks into your Marathon training you don’t always run another Marathon, but Vegas was an exception. This weeks training called for a 75 minute run, so I didn’t steer that far off from the program. Plus I really wanted to get another Half Marathon in before the LA Full and Vegas looked awesome…..and it was. It’s funny, I lived in Las Vegas for over 5 years, graduated from UNLV, have been up and down the strip, in and out of casinos, nightclubs and pool parties, but NEVER…EVER…EVER thought I’d run down Las Vegas Boulevard at Night with thousands of other people.
My buddy Dave Farra from our sister station X107.5 in Las Vegas joined me for the run. He was NOT a bad influence at all and we did NOT go out the night before the big run and hang out at an ultra lounge then a dance club….nope, just rested up on a Saturday evening in Las Vegas and watched the ol’ tube.
After our well-rested evening we made it down to the South end of the Las Vegas Strip to corral 20. The Half Marathon started at 4:30 and our corral made it to the start line at about 5p. “…..4….3….2……1” and it began! We made our way from pretty much Mandalay Bay all the way down the Las Vegas Strip passed Monte Carlo, MGM, Paris, Caesars, T.I., Wynn, Stratosphere with thousands of viewers alongside the course cheering you on and bands performing at each mile. We looped around near Fremont Street and ended the 13.1 Mile run in front of the Mirage.
The feeling at the end of a Half or Full Marathon is really amazing. The energy of the cheering fans, the loud upbeat music and just the other runners surrounding you when you hit that finish line is an awesome experience. As you stand there, catch your breath and hold your medal, you think to yourself, “Wow I just did that…I just ran a Marathon…BOOM!”
