“Run em like, run em, rum em, Whoop!” Week 8 of my LA Marathon training took place at the Inaugural New Year’s Race in Downtown LA on Saturday Night. Thousands lined the streets at 9pm stretching and warming up before their 5K or Half Marathon run. A few friends of mine from Team In Training (Sasha & Jen) ran the 5K that started from 7th and Grand Ave. and ended up at 11th and Hope. It was a pretty spectacular course through much of the Fashion District.
Being that it was at night at times it almost felt like the Zombie Apocalypse was upon us with dim lit streets and runners scattered in front of you. Though there were no zombies on hand (that I know of) we safely made it to the finish line where we were greeted by screaming spectators, water & FOOD!!!
About 20 feet after the finish line we were given our Inaugural New Year’s Race Medal that we held with Pride, Honor, Sweat, Glory…….and definitely showed off at every restaurant/ bar we went to that evening.
On a side note the mileage for our Team Practice on Saturday was 6 miles, so I did in fact run 3 miles early that afternoon to stay on track.
Next up on the “Tour de 5K” is The Color Run February 2nd at Dodger Stadium. This will be my first and I hear it’s all sorts of crazy, awesome, colorful fun. You still have time to sign up DO IT!!! As always thanks to those that have donated and continue to donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training.
