This past weekend saw the release of the latest single from One Direction, and it’s not just any single. The 1D mash-up of two old school New Wave favorites from 1978, Blondie’s “One Way or Another” and The Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks,” is a charity release for UK’s Red Nose Day. Red Nose Day is a bi-annual fund raising event, coming up this year on March 15th, organized by Comic Reliefto help those throughout the UK and Africa facing injustice or living in poverty.

As part of their Red Nose Day effort, One Direction recently traveled to Ghana where the band were able to see first hand the dire conditions. “I’m a little bit nervous and scared of what I might see,” Zayn Malik reveals in a video document of their journey, “but we’ve come here today to have a look at what our money can do to help.” It’s a heart-wrenching video with the boys showing a seldom seen serious side.
While the “One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)” single is not available in the US, an official video for the song is set to be released on Thursday via VEVO. The guys will also be performing the song on the BRIT Awards. As with the countdown to the release of their “Kiss You” video, video sneak peeks are being released daily leading up to the official video release.
In addition to the single release, One Direction are also jumping in with other fundraising efforts. Recently, notoriously chatty Niall Horan kept his mouth shut in a sponsored silence day and Harry Styles stepped into the kitchen to whip up some special muffins for charity.
