“Our album is gonna be very personal and honest. It’s not going to be 15 similar tracks,” said Caroline Hjelt on how the album will compare to the high-energy girl-power of “I Love It,” which has become a bona fide hit thanks to the song being used in a much-discussed nightclub scene in HBO’s controversial and Emmy-winning TV series, Girls.
“It’s going to be kind of spread, because we’ve been through this journey,” Hjelt continued regarding the band’s American debut, due sometime in 2013. “Now we’ve been writing and traveling the world and inspirations from all over the place. We love galloping drums, synthesizers and bittersweet melodies. For us, it’s very important. We have a lot to say, and we want to share stuff, so yes.”
Icona Pop generated much buzz with “I Love It” last year, as the song was lauded by Pitchfork as “Best New Track” and landed on many year-end best-of charts, including Rolling Stone magazine. The duo is currently on tour, performing headlining dates between shows opening for Passion Pit and Matt & Kim across the country.
