Lakers legends gathered Thursday afternoon at Nokia Theatre to honor beloved owner Jerry Buss, who passed away earlier this week after a battle with cancer.

Icons including Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Jerry West took to the stage to share their memories.

Bryant, who also spoke a couple days ago during an emotional pre-game tribute, had a message for his current teammates.

“I encourage all of you, me included, to just look around the room and look at the greatness of one man’s vision. Look at all the players that are here, coaches that are here. We all have one thing in common, that we all believed in Dr. Jerry Buss,” he said. “And so [it's important] for us to look around this room and to understand that we’re playing for something bigger than ourselves, bigger than a single season. We are playing for the memory of a great man, which is Dr. Jerry Buss.”

Shaquille O’Neal brought some much-needed levity to the somber service joking, “He gave me everything I wanted. I wanted a first extension and he gave it to me. I wanted a second extension and he gave it to me. I wanted a third extension and he traded me.”

Magic Johnson brought the audience to its feet with his inspiring words.

“This is a celebration of life. This is a celebration of success. We shouldn’t be sad. We should be happy that this man enjoyed his life and did it his way.”
