Later this month, construction crews will be shutting down Coldwater Canyon for nearly 11 hours a day, Monday-Saturday!
It’s being dubbed “Canyon-geddon,” and it’s bound to be a traffic nightmare.
Just to give you a sense of how important this road is, more than 1,400 cars access Coldwater Canyon every hour!
From March 23-April 26, Coldwater Canyon will be shut down between Ventura Boulevard to Mulholland Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Hoping for a break on the weekends? Think again. The road will also be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
There is the tiniest of silver linings. During the evening hours and on Sundays, one lane in each direction will be open.
What’s all the fuss about? LADWP will be replacing a 99-year-old pipe, which is part of a major project to update the city’s water infrastructure.
Beverly Glen, Laurel Canyon, and the 405 and 101 freeways are popular alternate routes, but expect a lot more congestion on those roads as a result of the Coldwater Canyon closure.
