Famous basketball player, businessman, and altruist Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. has been no stranger to controversy–especially after he announced in 1991 that he tested positive for HIV.
At the time, HIV was publicly associated with homosexuals and drug addicts. However, Johnson’s own contraction of the virus and his campaign work with the Magic Johnson Foundation helped spread the word that HIV and AIDS did not practice exclusivity.
While many questioned Johnson, through the years the basketball player has made it clear that not only is he a fighter but a father.
It comes as no surprise that Johnson is supportive of his openly gay son and his namesake, Earvin Johnson III.
“Cookie and I love EJ and support him in every way,” said Magic. “We’re very proud of him.”
TMZ caught the 20-year-old holding hands with his boyfriend on the Sunset Strip where they questioned the fashionable young man about sports, specifically the Dodgers. Johnson and his partners took over the Los Angeles basketball franchise in 2012.
When the EJ was asked if he thought the Dodgers would do well this year, he answered positively: “I hope so. I’m going to hope and pray on it.”
