Reese Witherspoon Addresses Arrest: “We Know Better”
Well, it turns out the Oscar winner was surprised by her own behavior too! She appeared on Good Morning America today to apologize for the incident.
“We went out to dinner in Atlanta and we had one too many glasses of wine,” she explained.
Her husband, Jim Toth, was driving and police arrested him for a DUI.
“We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. We know better and we shouldn’t have done that.”
Witherspoon became belligerent during the traffic stop, yelling at the officer and exiting the car.
“I told him I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant. I said all kinds of crazy things,” she admitted. “I was so disrespectful to him. I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better. It’s just unacceptable.”
The mother of three said she personally called the police department to apologize.
“It’s just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry and embarrassed. I think we made a mistake and it was something that will absolutely never happen again…When you make a mistake, you take responsibility and we are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right.”
