Since June of last year I’ve completed the SD Full Marathon, Disney Half, Las Vegas Half, LA Full and currently training for the SD Half on June 2nd. I can honestly say I never thought I would be one to complete a Half let alone a Full Marathon, but it CAN BE DONE!!! I’ve trained with some great people over the year, I’ve learned a lot and now I’m sharing some of that knowledge with you and Booker (Yep he’s signed up). For the next Month I’ll update my status via AMPRadio.com, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. If you have any extra tips or also training be sure to let me know.
With a month left until the San Diego Half I’m at a comfortable interval 4:1 pace. So pretty much I jog for a good 4 minutes then power walk for a minute. I do this until I complete my mileage for the day. This has worked great for myself and a lot runners I know. Pace yourself and get across that finish line. Some great spots to get your training in are in Santa Monica right next to the ocean or the loop around Balboa Park in Encino. One loop around Balboa Park and you hit 5 miles. I plan to take Booker there next week to loop it twice for a good 10 mile run before the Marathon. I also like to hit up Runyon Canyon in Hollywood for Hill training, plus it’s an awesome view of the entire city (watch out for tiny dogs).
I definitely try to eat healthy while training. Yes I have the occasional slice of pizza, but I like to stick to protein, salads, spinach and Muscle Milk. I’ve been drinking Muscle Milk since last years Coachella. It has all the protein and nutrients I need after I get in my long runs or a hard work out. My 3 favorites are Vanilla, Cookies N Crème & Chocolate in case you give it a try.
With that said its time to get back to running! Check back for more updates and hope to see you at the San Diego Marathon in June.
Remember, whether you’re running a 100 meters or 100 miles, runners need protein to go the distance and win.
