These days, it seems like the judging panels on every network singing competition is a never-ending series of musical chairs.

Britney’s out! Mariah’s in! Usher’s here! Will Nicki Minaj stay another season? Speculation runs rampant and before you know it, you’ve got a drama-licious situation on your hands.

This week, talk about who would be coaching cycle five of The Voice heated up as word spread that Christina Aguilera would be returning for another go around.

But before the rumor mill got really brutal, NBC announced that not only will Christina and Cee Lo Green be back in the fall, but also that Usher and Shakira will be sitting in the big red chairs again come cycle six!

Veterans Adam Levine, Blake SheltonCarson will stick around for both cycles.

Carson confirmed the great news this morning, calling it a decision that “makes everyone happy.”

“The idea is that you get people who are doing the show for the right reason and when you do that, when you get good people in those chairs, who know that it’s not about themselves, it’s not about creating drama, it’s not about re-booting their career, it’s not about celebrity. This is strictly about trying to help these people make their way through music and mentor them,” he explained.

“As long as we keep bringing people like that, the show’s going to be fine.”

Why is Shakira taking a few months off? Carson said the new mommy is using the time to bond with her son, Milan.

Shakira’s got a baby, so she can spend some good time now and go back to Barcelona or wherever and hang out with her family. And then she loves this job, she loves this show, so she’ll come back and do it next spring.”

Carson is excited for Christina to return this fall because she has a wealth of knowledge to pass along to the contestants.

“I actually did miss a little bit of her coaching style and the way that she critiques people,” he said. “It takes some cojones a little bit to give that constructive criticism.”
