Another Marathon in the books!!! Over the weekend Booker and I joined the 30,000 Runners/ walkers for the 2013 San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. This was my 5th Marathon since last years SD run and Booker’s 1st…. he made it!!! He was a little banged up by the end, but nothing some ice (lots of ice) and rest couldn’t take care of. So my hat off to you Booker congratulations on completing 13.1 miles and the same goes to everyone that took part in Sundays Marathon. The 2 to 3 months of training takes lots of dedication and discipline, it’s a huge accomplishment and something to really be proud of…..CONGRATS!
The weekend consisted of me driving us down to San Diego on Saturday and hitting up the race expo to grab all our bib/ gear etc. We walked the expo floor purchased some headphones and checked out the Half Marathon course on one of those sped up videos. Booker’s jaw dropped as he had just been informed the first 5 miles were up hill. Ha…not a problem! Pretty much the rest of the afternoon consisted of some rest and relaxation followed by a nice big carb filled dinner. Next up sleepy sleep time for our 5am wake up call.
We were dropped off at about 5:45 near Balboa Park on Sunday morning. Thousands of runners stretching, chatting and waiting in the massive lines to use the rest room were scattered throughout the park. We just took it all in. You can just feel the energy from everyone and all you want to do is just hear that count down “3, 2, 1, GO,” and just be off. We were in corral 11 and it was go time…..ya know what you can check it out for yourself, press play below.
Yep, a MUSCLE MILK after the 13.1 miles for recovery is a must #GiveMcCabeStrength. My official time for the 2013 San Diego Half Marathon was 2:18:00. Next up my fist Triathlon, The Malibu Triathlon in September. Time to swim, bike and RUN! Hope to see you there.
Remember, whether you’re running 100 meters or 100 miles, runners need protein to go the distance and win. #MuscleMilk
