Since J. Cole decided to move the release date of his album Born Sinner and Kanye West’s Yeezus got leaked last week, there are two red-hot albums out right now and there’s no better time to use that iTunes gift card you have just lying around.
Yeezy is getting praised forYeezus. Fans were skeptical to how Yeezus was going sound following Kanye’s avant-garde SNL peformance and on-stage concert rants, but since the entire album is only 45 minutes, it wasn’t long until the reviews were in. Darian Lusk of CBS News’ Summer Music Mix said, “West is back with his hardest, most exhilarating release yet. He brings us some of his most ludicrous rhymes — like his gentle request for French pastries — and personal stories to date, busting out what may be his most complete album.”
J. Cole fans are loving Born Sinner, but critics are judging the Roc Nation rapper a little harder. Rolling Stone only gave the album 3.5 stars, while Jesse Fairfax of Hip Hop DX said, “Despite the layered production and varied rhyme cadences employed at times, it’s not a particularly dynamic listen.”
Don’t let the critics make up your mind, though. Buy whichever album you are looking forward to hearing the most.
