What a great day!!!
The Supreme Court delivered a history-making ruling sought by gay marriage supporters, striking down the 1996 federal law that denied benefits to same-sex couples.
The court was more cautious in a second case involving California’s ban on gay marriage, Proposition 8. The justices explained that the plaintiff lacked jurisdiction to have their case heard, meaning that a federal district court’s ruling striking down Proposition 8 stands, clearing the way for gay marriage to resume in the state of California.
That’s a lot of legal mumbo jumbo, so it’s a bit difficult to understand exactly what everything means, so for today’s Viral Video of the Day, we’ll take a look at a few videos to help us better understand this historic day.
Firstly, the boss Carson Daly is filling in on the TODAY show this week and spoke to us this morning about the ruling. “It was very cool to see Matt Lauer and the TODAY show team running around to cover this history-making story as it broke,” he said.
Secondly, we’ll take a look at a video of President Obama calling the HRC President and the Prop 8 plaintiffs from Air Force One.
Thirdly, to wrap it up, we’ll check out a video from the American Foundation for Equal Rights talking about exactly what this all means.
