Even though Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail has been burning up the album charts since July 4th, Carson’s only recently gotten a chance to really dig into the album.

By now, we’re all familiar with the lead single, “Holy Grail,” so Carson took a little time this morning to share some of the deeper tracks that he’s had on repeat.

“There’s some really good tracks off this Jay Z record, not that I’m informing many of you about it. I’m sure you’ve discovered it, but I’m late to the game on some of those other tracks.”

This week, Carson can’t get enough of Jay’s collaboration with wife Beyonce, “Part II (On The Run).”

“It’s got a real, 90s kind of laid-back vibe to it,” Carson described.

Jay Z has come such a long way in the past 17 years, marrying into hip hop royalty, becoming a billionaire, and creating a multimedia empire, but Carson maintains that hasn’t stopped him from producing quality music.

“When he puts out a record like the Rick Ross track [“F**kWithMeYouKnowIGotIt”], it excites me because it reminds me from Reasonable Doubt and the early Jay Z stuff why I liked him as an MC,” Carson said. “He’s still capable of just really getting grimy with it and it’s really good to hear him sound that way.”

“He’s a lyrical assassin on it,” Carson added. “It’s not just an over-hyped beat.”
