New Music Alert: Lorde ‘Royals’
If you haven’t already heard of Lorde, AMP Radio is here to get you in the loop!
Lorde (real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor) is a 16-year-old singer from Auckland, New Zealand. Her age is crucial once you listen to her song “Royals.” Lucky for you, we have the song available for your listening pleasure! Check it out:
“Royals” is the anti-wealth anthem. It features lyrics that scream “we’d rather be broke and happy.” The hit single was written by Lorde herself, and she revealed to the online Asian-Pacific magazine The Diplomat that she had been listening to a lot of hip-hop at the time. She says, “…all those references to expensive alcohol, beautiful clothes and beautiful cars – I was thinking, ‘This is so opulent, but it’s also bulls**t.” Wise words for a 16-year-old!
“Royals” is the first single off the EP The Love Club. It’s reached the number one spot on Billboard’s Alternative Songs Chart, making Lorde the first female in 17 years to hold that honor! This certainly sounds like royalty to us!
The Love Club was released in March of this year and will be followed by Pure Heroine, her debut album. Pure Heroine is scheduled to be released in September.
The single is available on iTunes.
