Carson Daly Critiques Lady Gaga’s New “ARTPOP” Tunes

Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP doesn’t hit store shelves until November 11, but she gave her fans a huge sneak peek this past weekend while opening the iTunes Festival.

Mother Monster debuted seven new songs in London, which was her first solo show since cancelling her Born This Way Ball in February to undergo hip surgery.

Carson was listening back to some of the highlights this morning and chimed in with his thoughts on Gaga’s new material.

“You’re always going to have your critics. There’s going to be people who think Gaga should stick more to the ‘Just Dance’ and the older stuff that’s a little more radio-palatable, if you will,” Carson explained.

“And then you’re going to have a huge swell of predominantly Little Monsters and her fans that actually love that she continues to wedge herself between what’s popular in American radio songs, the chart, and her just doing her own thing making music.”

Overall, Carson felt the ARTPOP tracks were well-produced, especially the EDM-influenced “Aura.”

“These beats and stuff that we’re hearing on the radio probably don’t resonate as full and impactful as they would if you had been in this arena in London, where I’m sure they were just going crazy.”

One of Carson’s favorites included “I Wanna Be With You,” an emotional ballad.

“You put her at a piano and just have her sing raw, you can’t go wrong at all.”

Gaga also dazzled the crowd with her title track, “ARTPOP.” Carson felt this song was the one that “went over the best in London.”

The tune contains the lyrics: “We could belong together,” which is how Mother Monster described her album to Carson in 4 words or less when she visited AMP Radio back in August.
