Texas Congressman Scolds Park Ranger For Memorial Closure
We’ve reached day four of the government shutdown and things are starting to get extremely tense.
In case you weren’t aware, all national monuments and memorials have closed down because there’s no money to pay the employees. That being said, Park Service is allowing veterans to visit all war memorials.
Republican Randy Neugebauer, a representative from Texas, had the boneheaded idea to walk on down to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. to berate a lone park ranger for the closure, as if she had anything to do about it.
She was posted at the spot to keep civilians from entering when she was suddenly bombarded by the congressman.
“Park Service should be ashamed of themselves,” Neugebauer said.
“I’m not ashamed,” the ranger told him.
“Well, you should be,” he replied.
His grandstanding completely backfired on him when a veteran stepped in to defend the ranger, who was simply doing her job. When Neugebauer tried to blame the veteran’s unemployment status on Senate majority leader Harry Reid, the cyclist set him straight.
“No, it’s because the government won’t do its job and pass a budget.”
