These days, we’re so used to celebrities staging over-the-top announcements, or better yet, announcements of announcements.
So, imagine our surprise when Tom Hanks made an extremely off-the-cuff admission that he was suffering from a very serious disease!
It all went down during an appearance Monday night on the Late Show with David Letterman.
“I went to the doctor and he said, ‘You know those high blood sugar numbers you’ve been dealing with since you were 36? Well, you’ve graduated. You’ve got type 2 diabetes, young man,'” Hanks explained to the talk show host.
What the what? Although the diagnosis seems to have come out of left field, Hanks’ habit of gaining and losing weight for acting roles could be a contributing factor.
Hanks pointed out that type 2 diabetes is “completely controllable” and joked that there’s always going to be something that’s killing us.
