Watch Kanye Tout His Genius On Extensive ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Interview
After Kanye waged a Twitter battle against the late night host for a parody he didn’t find too funny the rapper appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (October 9) to make nice. And of course, tout his genius.
Things started off quiet (as you can see in the clip above) with Kimmel trying to warm his guest up by asking him what he’s wearin before soon turning it into an ersatz therapy session that addressed Kanye’s feelings on his on celebrity.
Kimmel admitted he had only seen a few short segments of Yeezy’s interview with BBC Radio, the interview that inspired Kimmel’s parody. “Yeah, that’s what I thought,” Kanye said, straight face. But after playing the clip of the parody, featuring a little boy doing his best Kanye impression, ‘Ye cracked a smile.
As for whether this whole thing was a publicity stunt, Kanye says he’s never done anything as a publicity stunt. “I don’t follow rules of normal celebrity or whatever a publicist tells me to say anything so, I don’t do publicity stunts, period. So don’t ever think that.”
The two then talked about the phone call they had, the one where Kanye gave him two choices, both being to apologize for the skit, which Kanye said he didn’t watch all the way through because he didn’t want to be “infuriated.” (Watch the clip below.)
“We kind of took it back to high school for a bit,” Kanye said about their chat, admitting that Kimmel, who he had met at a wedding, became the person he could hold accountable for all the nasty headlines on the rag magazines and other untrue things that have been said about him on the Internet.
Kimmel agreed with Kanye, admitting that he understands his point about feeling like a zoo animal when it comes to the media and didn’t think he would hurt someone with a little comedy bit. But Kimmel did address Kanye’s own hand in the media’s portrayal of him.
“I don’t know if you know this, but a lot of people think you’re a jerk,” Kimmel said flat out to the rapper. He then told a story about this wedding for a mutual friend of theirs where Kanye took a picture with Kimmel’s dad. “To be so nice to everyone there, that says a lot about you.”
Kimmel seemed to be blowing up Kanye’s I-don’t-give-a-f*** spot, telling him I know you’re a nice guy whether or not you get onstage and say you don’t care about anybody. “I know part of you doesn’t care,” Kimmel said. “I see you onstage saying, ‘I don’t want to hold your baby. I’ll drop your baby on its head.’…I don’t believe any of that stuff when you say it.” (Watch below.)
Kanye responded with, “I’m not running for office. I’m here to make good music.”
